Ben Patten Honored with Massachusetts Water Works Association Special Achievement Award

Ben Patten, Assistant Area Manager responsible for the oversight and support of the Manchester-by-the-Sea water treatment systems, operated by Woodard & Curran, received a Special Achievement Award from the Massachusetts Water Works Association (MWWA). The award recognizes an operator and member of the association who has made outstanding contributions to the drinking water profession. The award was presented at the MWWA’s Annual Meeting on November 1st.

“Ben has been a passionate advocate for the water treatment profession ever since he entered the field,” said Paul Roux, Operations Leader for Woodard & Curran’s Operations & Management business. “His work in Manchester-by-the-Sea is exemplary and his advocacy throughout Massachusetts and beyond sets a very high bar. In every aspect, from health and safety to compliance reporting and collaborating with stakeholders across the community, his knowledge and dedication shine through.”

Before his promotion to Area Manager, Patten served as Plant Manager, responsible for the operations of Manchester-by-the-Sea’s Gravelly Pond surface water treatment facility and Lincoln St. groundwater treatment facility as well as distribution system sampling and reporting. He handled both day-to-day operations alongside one other full-time operator and managed compliance reporting, coordination with various town departments, and all other aspects of operations and performance.

“At the end of the day, we’re providing an essential service to the community,” said Patten. “As stewards of public health, we have the challenge of keeping potable drinking water flowing in an ever-changing regulatory environment. There’s a lot of satisfaction in this work, knowing that we are keeping the community safe.”

The Massachusetts Water Works Association, Inc. is a membership organization dedicated to the advancement of the drinking water profession. Through education and advocacy, MWWA is committed to public health by promoting a safe and sufficient supply of drinking water to Massachusetts consumers.
